We talk frequently about the SAT and our Dean of Admission, Tim Brunold, recommended we go in order to relate to the students with whom we work. Sam and Eric accepted the process.     Q: Why did you choose to take the SAT?

    S: I was curious. We put it to use and have so many conversations around it that it felt irresponsible to perhaps not really know very well what it was like.

    Q: Now you’ve finished your undergraduate and graduate work, did you will find it easier or higher difficult this time?

    S: It absolutely was undoubtedly harder, I think because I do not sit right down in a classroom analyzing literature or math that is doing days, so my brain just is not trained for that kind of material anymore.     BEING A GLOBAL CITIZEN: Q&A w/ Uche Mordi about the Alternative Spring Break Program

    It seems unreal to express but break that is spring right around the corner for many of you. At USC, it is a time for a quick recharge to gear up the past push towards the end for the year that is academic. Many choose to spend their time at house, remain on campus and have now adventures in LA, or get on a journey outside of the city. For this web site, I interviewed USC student that is senior Uche (pronounced ‘Òochay’) Mordi, and she discussed the process of deciding to go to Guatemala with USC’s Alternative Spring Break program.     A: Uche means ‘God’s choice’ in Igbo, a Nigerian dialect.

    Q: So, where did you go for your spring break last year?
    A: I went to Guatemala, to three cities that are different. The three towns had been Atitlán, Panahachel and Retalhuleu. We were there for ten days. 1st two and a half days were all about tourism. We desired to get acquainted with the cities. Then the remainder of that time period, we worked in these rural areas every day from 9am to 5pm. Nearly all of the work involved labor that is solid the schools. We performed yard work, painting, interior designing, and just the general beautifying of the schools. The trip was definitely focused on volunteerism.

    Q: Why did you want to go?
    A: The reason that is initial I obtained into a various research abroad program, but that program ultimately did maybe not work out, so I used this being an alternative. My friend recommended that I consider ASB (Alternative Spring Break).

    Q: Why did you select Guatemala?
    A: The programs with ASB are divided into worldwide or trips that are domestic. I definitely wanted to choose a program that is international of my Spanish back ground. I wanted to work with my abilities that are spanish We have never gone to South America.

    Q: just How do you are feeling about global opportunities only at that school and the method USC encourages development as a global citizen?
    A: USC is performing an excellent job only at that, not only due to the high population of international students. Our study abroad programs are superb mostly because of the quantity of programs available that worked with my routine. Used to donot require to be a certain major to go abroad.

    Q: What do you like in regards to the Alternative Spring Break program specifically?
    A: ASB requires students to possess an open mind. We now have to be familiar with the culture that is different we are stepping into. I like how ASB prepares the learning students for this trip and they really stress the culture shock we might experience. I was allowed by it to grow my perspectives.

    Q: Is there a memory that is favorite might have?
    A: The long bus rides to the small village. I just loved hearing the non-public tales of people connecting to various kids. But there is one that stands out from the rest. It is the memory We have from the final time. It actually struck me how the villagers we served in those 10 days had been providing us gifts for the ongoing work we have done, although they don’t have much at all. It was amazing to see those who may possibly not have the resources that are same enjoy, but still feel the aspire to provide us with what they can out of the kindness of these hearts. I’ll always remember that.

    A: It is not merely the connection I’d with all the people we had been serving. I also developed a bond with the learning students i went on the trip with. We still keep in touch, we’ve tees that we proudly wear that help us reminisce about the trip also it created this system of help that I still have today.

    Q: Any advice you would like to share with whoever wants to study abroad?
    A: avoid being afraid to go into unknown. There are many other avenues at USC where you are able to bond with people and produce lifelong friendships aside from the more popular options.
